1) What is the Canadian Body Art Championships?

A competition for body artists from across Canada to earn the title of the best in Canada. The winner of the festival represents Canada in the World Body painting Championships in Austria. The event is held in May and will feature more than 25 body artists culminating in a Vegas style extravaganza. A preview event will take place as part of the 2007 Calgary Fringe Festival August 11 & 12th.

2) What is Exposed Calgary?

The Calgary Fringe Festival exposes Calgarians to new and cutting edge art forms. Photographers participate in competitions that test their artistic merit and not their budget. Their works get exhibited at the Devonian Gardens for a 5-day display of their work during the Calgary Fringe Festival.

3) When do you need models?

Year round – we do workshops, public presentations, photo competitions and locations shoots.

4) Do I need to be a certain body type?

No, every artist and or photographer need different bodies for different projects. We have special requests for pregnant women, bald men etc.

5) Am I going to be safe?

Most all of our projects involve working in groups with more than one model, artist or photographer around. We encourage chaperones and you are required to leave any project that you feel might be uncomfortable for you.

6) Am I guaranteed work?

No, it depends on your ability to fulfill the requirements of the project. That includes your availability, meeting the requirements for the artists, body type, hair color etc.

7) Am I naked in public?

Body Art is conducted in cordoned off areas. All body art models are given underwear to wear for both the painting and the public displays. Any events that are held in the public where there is not a gated admission, pasties are worn. Any events that are ticketed events, women wear no pasties. Men are always in underwear and are required to shave body hair.

Photography workshops, location shoots and a competition are held in cordoned off areas and does involve nudity. We only allow artistic nudes. Our shoots do not capture images that would resembles photos that you would see in adult magazines.

8) Will my picture get published on the Web?

Yes, we maintain the rights to publish photos on our web sites along with sanctioned photographers have the right to publish the photos.

9) Do I get a copy of the images?

Most all of the photographers are very willing to share the photos with the models. The golden rule is to ask politely and stay on top of the request until you get your images.

10) Do I need to be a performer?

Maybe depending on what area interests you. For the Canadian Body Art Championship, the models will be part of an extravagant Vegas style show that will feature performers, models and entertainers. Models with a dance, theatre or special performance background are given first priority for some of the events.

11) Can I bring a chaperone?

Absolutely and anyone suggesting you can’t would be barred from any further participation. Spouses or boyfriends may be asked to wait outside.
